RESEARCH

Let us take a little journey back to elementary school, 5th grade, when we learned the rock cycle. Visit the Nation al Geographic link in the resources section and familiarize yourself with the Rock Cycle.

Draw a ldiagram of the rock cycle with the different types of rocks, how they are formed, and where they can be found.

ACTIVITY

As we prepare ourselves to be realtors on the Moon, we need to learn about the surface of the moon. Last lesson we learned about Regolith, Moon Dust, and this week we are learning about Lunar Rocks.

How did scientist learn about these structures? Lunar Missions. There have been several Lunar Missions where scientists have gathered soil and rocks from the Moon’s surface in order to study.

In this activity you will make a timeline, a chart, or a table to document the mission, where on the moon it was located, and what type of particle they discovered.

Pay attention to the composition of the particles and see hoe they compare to rocks on earth as you have just completed a rock cycle refresher.

BEST IN YOUR COMMUNITY

Rock scavenger hunt. Over the next few weeks and during the summer, you might be traveling around the country. Become young scientist as you gather rock dsamples from your travels and then come back home and see if you can identify theior composition.

Even if you are not traveling around the country, look in your community, maybe near a creek or other fun places. Gather some rocks and then make a rock display trying to figure out what type of rock they are and where do they fit into the rock cycle.

This might not be your favorit ROCK song, but it is a rock song and you might just love it.
