Welcome to bESTology 2024

LOW G

During the bESTology lessons, you are going to act as a realtor and your goal is to gather enough information so you can sell property in outer space, specifically the moon.

So, as you prepare your rockets for launch and take off for your journey into outer space, we wish you the BEST of luck and may you always stay in LOW G

The ten lessons in front of you are going to prepare you for the LOW G BEST season and help your team understand the concepts needed to sell property on another planet.

You might think this is far-fetched, but it really isn’t.

So, gather your team and become the next BEST realtor.

LESSON 9 – Water on the MOON

Welcome to lesson 1, all about gravity!

Remember, your goal during bESTology is to become a licensed realtor and sell property in space. In order to be a licensed realtor, you will need to know about conditions on different plants so you can talk to your clients in a professional manner.

We are getting closer to becoming a licensed MOON realtor. In this lesson we will learn about water on the moon.

In order to work and live on the Moon, we are going to need water to survive. Where are we going to find that water?

RESEARCH

What’s big, covered in water, yet 100 times drier than the Sahara Desert? It’s not a riddle, it’s the Moon! For centuries, astronomers debated whether water exists on Earth’s closest neighbor. In 2020, data from NASA’s SOFIA mission confirmed water exists in the sunlit area of the lunar surface as molecules of H2O embedded within, or perhaps sticking to the surface of, grains of lunar dust.

Here is a brief history of the discoveries leading up to the confirmation of water on the Moon. CLICK ON THE BUTTON BELOW.

ACTIVITY

In this activity we will revisit the water cycle and compare it to other water cycles found in space.

Part 1. Make a poster of the water cycle. Use this link to help you refresh your knowledge.

Part 2. Look at the MARS WATER CYCLE and make a comparison between the water cycle on Earth and Mars. See if you can find a Moon water cycle and compare it as well

BEST IN YOUR COMMUNITY

Finding the water cycle in your community

This might be difficult as you cant see hydrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, or water molecules.

However there is a lot more to the water cycle. See if you can identify these.
