During the bESTology lessons, you are going to act as a realtor and your goal is to gather enough information so you can sell property in outer space, specifically the moon.
So, as you prepare your rockets for launch and take off for your journey into outer space, we wish you the BEST of luck and may you always stay in LOW G
The ten lessons in front of you are going to prepare you for the LOW G BEST season and help your team understand the concepts needed to sell property on another planet.
You might think this is far-fetched, but it really isn’t.
So, gather your team and become the next BEST realtor.
LESSON 3 – THE MOON
Welcome to lesson 3, THE MOON!
Remember, your goal during bESTology is to become a licensed realtor and sell property in space. In order to be a licensed realtor, you will need to know about conditions on different plants so you can talk to your clients in a professional manner.
In the previous lesson we learned a little about the moons in our solar system, Latin and Greek names, and we did some planet gazing.
In the lesson we are going to learn about The Moon, our moon, the one we see almost every night i n the sky, the one that orbits our planet.

Week one of bESTology 2024, you were told that your mission was to become a realtor that will specialize in moon living. In order to become this specialized realtor, you need to know moon facts. We know that the moon has 1/6 of the gravity than Earth. What does this mean for living and working on the moon?
Since elementary school , you have probably learning about the moon, and space. Are you able to answer these questions?
Why does the moon orbit Earth?
Why do we see different Moon phases?
How long does it take the Moon to orbit Earth?
Why do we only see one side of the Moon?
Is there such a thing as the dark side of the Moon?
What causes tides on Earth?
These are just a few basic questions to jog your memory and get into the Moon groove?
ACTIVITY
ACTIVITY 1: FACT BRAINSTORM
During the engineering design process we participate in many brainstorming activities. This helps bring out creative ideas and hear from other people. In this activity you will brainstorm as many facts about the moon as you can. Use your knowledge from the research section above. One person can be the scribe and write down all the facts that were shared.
ACTIVITY 2: MOON PHASE POSTERS
This can be done individually or as a class. It can be done with each moon phase on a single poster then taped to the walls in your classroom or hung from the ceiling. It can also be done on a single piece of paper individually. You can also use the moon phase worksheet below.

Moon Observation Journal – 2024 Eclipse Edition
A solar eclipse will cross North America on April 8, 2024. Many people will be able to see a partial eclipse, and some lucky viewers will be able to see a total solar eclipse. Check out NASA’s eclipse path map to find out what to expect in your location. Always use proper eye protection to observe an annular or partial solar eclipse.
