bESTology 2025-Lesson #8

Welcome to bESTology 2025 fACTOIDS
This mission will focus your thinking through interaction of AI and deepen your knowledge of training AI models and judging the validity of the results. Examining the accuracy of results is vital in determining the value of AI responses. Find your thinking cap and gather your thoughts to enter this next part of your AI mission. Let’s begin…
Lesson #8- “Testing leads to failure, and failure leads to understanding,” Burt Ratan
Mission eight will have you apply your critical thinking and reflection strategies to understand how testing and failure leads to growth. AI is still a work in progress as the data sets being used are constantly evolving, learning about prompts and using Critical Thinking to assess the accuracy and responses using AI Chatbots and Generative AI tools.

ACTIVITY
In Lesson 7 you used AI Prompts to generate results in AI applications . Now that you have seen the results, how accurate do you think the results were? Was everything shown accurate? When you made an AI model using Machine Language bots, did your training yield accurate results? Did you think about the accuracy of the results? Now that you have read about AI failures in this unit, did you encounter a similar failure? Using the links under Tools and Tips and the video resources below, create your own AI Prompts. Evaluate how well the prompt would perform overtime. What changes could be made to improve accuracy or legitimacy of the information?
Share your insights in your Engineering Notebook.
- What did you notice about how prompt engineering works?
- How accurate was the generated response?
- Did you find bias in the response?
- What AI tool did you use?
- How did you debug for accuracy?
- How functional was your overall response for your team, task, overall results?
INQUIRY PROJECT
Burt Rutan is an American aircraft and spacecraft designer who was perhaps best known for SpaceShipOne, which in 2004 became the first private crewed spacecraft.Thinking about his quote at the beginning of this lesson, how will you share what you have learned about failure, AI Prompt Engineering, Machine Language and neural networks showing you asking the right questions in your Engineering Notebook? How will this lesson support your team in sharing and showing failure and success, risk and rewards with your robot design, construction, and software design?
BEST IN YOUR COMMUNITY
Learn how AI failures have failed the public . After reading the article, think about the businesses in your community. Connect with one or two and find out if they are using AI and if they have experienced AI failures and ways they have overcome them. Share your investigation in your Engineering Notebook.
