Safety<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.appypie.com\/\">Create a Free App<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Data Mining:<\/span> \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>Math teachers often state \u201cmath is the basis for everything in life.\u201d\u00a0 This statement definitely applies to the mining industry.\u00a0 Safety and math fit hand-in-hand when constructing mines.\u00a0\u00a0Geometric mine design considers slope, angle, curve, radius and more.\u00a0 Using your math book, the referenced sites for geometric design,, draw correlations between math terminology and equations to real-world application to mine design.\u00a0 (Hint \u2013 you may find some of the relationships in your science books also)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Writing:<\/span> \u00a0<\/strong><\/span>Be proactive in your community.\u00a0 Just as the National Mine Safety Organization has goals for safety improvements, identify and evaluate five (5) safety concerns for your town.\u00a0 Write a letter to the appropriate local official(s) addressing your concerns and proposed solutions. \u00a0Are there any governmental agencies that also need to be notified?\u00a0 Who else has jurisdiction around the issues you have identified?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">\u00a0<strong>BEST Robot: \u00a0<\/strong><\/span>April is National Safety Month.\u00a0 Celebrate your team\u2019s safety record by beginning to create a safety video to share with others (post on Facebook, tweet a link to it, post it on your website, build your community by showing it).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">What steps do you take to ensure safety around your BEST experience?\u00a0 Think about the obvious \u2013 training, protective gear \u2013 and the less obvious \u2013 supervision, traveling, etc.\u00a0 What else could your team do to increase the safety of the BEST experience?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Community Connection: \u00a0<\/strong><\/span>During Gatekeeper, the 2013 Game, a bESTolgy Camp Day 3 challenge was to create an app.\u00a0 This week create a promotional\/educational flyer about the apps in your community that promote safety (weather, traffic\u2026.??).\u00a0 Choose at least five.\u00a0 Help the community locate and \u201csell them\u201d on why they need the app.\u00a0 As an extra challenge, identify a gap in the coverage and write your own app to fill the void.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<strong>Bloom\u2019s Taxonomy:<\/strong> choose, conclude, create, draw, evaluate, identify, propose, share, write<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<strong>Workforce Development Skills:<\/strong>\u00a0 Reading comprehension, critical thinking, writing, service orientation<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em style=\"font-weight: bold;
